Producer Suresh Kumar is all set to remake Malayalam movie “Rathinirvedam”, which rocked the box office when it was released 32 years ago. The original was directed by versatile Bharatan. Master storyteller Padmarajan had written the script and Hari Pothen had produced it.
Released in 1978, the film about teenage boy Pappu (Krishnachandran), who falls in love with an older woman Rathi (Jayabharathi), had created a flutter among college students. Initially the lady resists his advances, but soon succumbs and their relationship blossoms and brings dramatic changes in their lives. Suresh Kumar, who remade “Neelathamara” last year and won accolades, said the script of his version is more or less the same.
“We have made a little modifications in the script and Swetha Menon will play the role played by yesteryear heroine Jayabharathi. In a way through this film we will be able to relive the great three film personalites – Bharatan, Padmarajan and Hari Pothen, who have left us,” Kumar said Friday at ‘pooja’ of the film. Ace director T.K. Rajeev Kumar will direct the film. “We have zeroed down on two boys to do the role of Krishnachandran. The shooting will begin early next year and by then we will finalise one of them for the role. Directing the film is certainly a tough task for me. I gave it a long thought before I agreed to do it,” said Rajeev Kumar.
